Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, at Long Beach in CA. DuVernay began to develop her creative and artistic side in her early years, thanks to Aunt Denise. The aunt worked as a nurse who stayed overnight so that she could have an opportunity to study and literature, or even theater. DuVernay had her summers spent in Lowndes County Alabama, where the father of DuVernay was born and was raised. DuVernay's father remembered watching the historic Civil Rights march over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, in adjacent Selma Alabama. DuVernay toured Selma in the summers and was later in awe of the idea to film about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay completed Saint Joseph High School at Lakewood, California in 1990. In the year 1990, she graduated from Saint Joseph High school in Lakewood California. DuVernay was a student at the college at the time she began to become interested in production for television journalism. Her career began as an assistant to CBS News in the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was able to recall being assigned the responsibility of looking over the house and examining the garbage of one of members of the juries. In the course of her duties, she became dissatisfied with journalism, and shifted into the business of publicity. DuVernay began working in a small studio as a junior publicist immediately after graduation. The year 1999 was the time she established her own business of public relations called The DuVernay Agency. In addition to PR her agency also launched several lifestyle and promotional networks including Urban Beauty Collective, the Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful.
